SurfDek Relay Tags are an electronic tag system which uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to identify information stored on the tag, using any modern smartphone. Relay Tags can be secured your surfboard, kiteboard, wing foil board and so on. If you lose your board somewhere, leave it accidentally or it is stolen or switched, Relay Tags makes it easy to be reunited with your board using technology and good faith. Anyone with a recent model smartphone can scan the SurfDek Relay Tag and attempt to contact with the rightful owner.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Someone finding a piece of equipment with a SurfDek RELAY tag in or on it (surfboard, kiteboard, wingboard, snowboard, canoe) can scan the tag using their smartphone. Simply activate your NFC scanner (new models do this automatically) and press your phone towards the RELAY tag. Your phone will automatically direct you to the SurfDek RELAY recovery page of our website. Scroll down to the button which says “Contact RELAY team” and then fill in the required information to start the process.
In the event a RELAY Tag is scanned and you contact us to retrieve information from a serial number, we will take your contact details (phone number). We will contact the most recent registered user of the RELAY Tag (by email or telephone) to see if they are looking to be reunited with the equipment. If this is the case, we will give your contact information provided (telephone number) on enquiry to the registered RELAY tag user so they can get in touch with you.
Installation Note
Fit your RELAY tag first to the board, then fit the bumper over and around the NFC tag, lining it up neatly and securely.
Register Your RELAY Tag
If you have just acquired a SurfDek product (new or used) and wish to register your RELAY Tag, please follow these 2 easy steps.
STEP 1
Head to My Account and register with SurfDek.
STEP 2
In your My Account dashboard head to Account Info [RELAY Tags] and enter your RELAY tag serial number(s) and the date of entry into the system.
All done!
How To Apply SurfDek
In order to get a perfect adhesion to your board using our traction pads, we recommend you follow these steps listed below.
1. Warm Environment
We love being outside as much as anyone, but please Install SurfDek traction pads in a warm environment (like a cosy living room) above 18 degrees cesius. for an even better bond, use a hairdryer to gently warm up the back of the traction pad before you remove the backing film and apply.
2. Clean Flat Surface
Clean the board area with an alcohol wipe or similar. Make sure there is no wax residue, grease or dirt present before applying a surfdek traction pad. Be careful not to attempt to stick traction pads too far around board rails.
3. Peel and Stick
Peel back half of the adhesive backing of your traction pad, this will make it easier to align. Place the pad glue side down in the desired position, pressing firmy. peel the remaining backing from the traction pad and press into place. Once down, rub overt the traction pad firmly across the entire pad, making sure to rub your hand along the edges to make sure it is firmly in place.
Extra: Hex Pad Packs
Layout your Hex Pads across the area you wish to cover in order to make sure it will be a nice fit. You will find the y-tool included with the pack fits neatly into the edge of a Hex Pad, in order to align the next hexagon. So that the tool does not get stuck between traction pads, You can then pull the y-tool away from the pads before moving on to the next one. Repeat this process with each Hex Pad until you have completed your Hex Pad traction pad.
